The Story so far...
In early 2020, before schools closed due to Covid-19, we were on track to finish delivering 19 free fun-filled in-school interactive workshops/assemblies on climate change and follow-up community roadshows, all across the South Hams. Schools engaged include Brixton, Buckfastleigh, Dartmouth, (Townstall), Diptford, Holbeton, Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Loddiswell, Marlborough, Modbury, Newton Ferrers, South Brent, Sparkwell, Ugborough, Wembury and Yealmpton.
The project has received attention from parish councils across the South Hams looking to work on their climate emergency declarations because it provides a way of reaching the community and helping them to take action. We hope to further promote the next phase of the project through parish councils so that the project becomes more accessible to ALL members of the community.

What's next?!
Working with our partner, Seadream Education, we are excited to now be working on the next phase of the project. Originally NZH aimed to carry out home visits to help households across the South Hams reduce their carbon footprints. With that now impractical we are soon to announce the launch our first NZH video which will be available to view on our brand new YouTube channel. We hope that by securing more funding the project might be able to develop subsequent videos aimed at inspiring and encouraging local people to reduce their carbon footprints.
The soon to be launched introductory video will aim to inspire children, their families, and the wider community to make changes to their lifestyles which have a meaningful impact on climate change.
We will also be distributing a printed activity pack available for all children across the schools engaged so far. The aim of these packs will be to investigate what makes up our carbon footprint and how we can reduce it. Activities include; looking at diet and shopping habits, reducing food waste, suggestions/recipes for meat free meals, recycling tips, composting suggestions, fun activities such as making a wormery, planting wildflowers or leaving an area in their garden ‘wild for nature’ and looking at transport habits.
Families and the wider community will be invited to use the carbon Savvy carbon calulator to calculate their carbon footprint for an adult in their household. Then, if they’re up for the challenge we are inviting individuals to become Net Zero Heroes. This will involve trying to reduce their carbon footprint over a three month period. We will calculate the overall reduction of carbon emissions over that period.
The parish with the greatest carbon reduction per capita will win generous outdoor classroom or learning environment resources for their local school.

In Summary
Lots of households involved + positive carbon reducing lifestyle changes = fantastic resources for your local school + fighting climate change
