17/2/2017

We are looking forward to supporting the National Energy Action Fuel Poverty Awareness Day on Friday 17th February to highlight the plight of people still living in fuel poverty.

Fuel poverty is defined as when a households needs to spend more than 10% of their income on fuel. The UK Government estimates that 2.39 million households in England are in fuel poverty.

SDCE's energy advisor Katie Reville will be at the Totnes Caring Bazaar at Totnes Methodist Church on the 17th from 9am-12pm where you can chat to her about how to keep your home warmer and reduce your fuel bills.

What can you do?
  • Come along and see Katie and pick up a free thermometer card.
  • Follow us and NEA on Twitter to keep up to date on our fuel poverty work.
  • Join us for a free energy advice workshop to learn how to help friends and family on Monday 13th Feb in Ivybridge Library, 7-8pm.

14th Feb - Showing our love for wind power

14/2/2017

On Valentines Day we'll be showing our love for wind power at Ivybridge Library 10am-11am.

We're supporting 10:10's Blown Away campaign to show the UK government how many people really support onshore wind power because it offers a low cost option for decarbonising the UK economy.

Wind power is the cheapest new low carbon power source we can build.

According to the National Audit Office and BEIS's 2016 Autumn Cost Assessment new build onshore wind will undercut CCGT (Gas-fired) power stations.

Contrary to what many people think, scrapping subsidies for onshore wind power will actually increase energy bills for householders, and that's from a report by Citizen's Advice.

Why not come along, bring some children (if you have them!) and make some pinwheels with us. There's a large car park outside the library, and a lovely cafe serving fairtrade drinks, and a welcoming noisy children's story area.
Family pinwheel making, from 10-11 am at Ivybridge Library, PL21 0SZ, Tuesday 14th Feb 2017.
