What do you think....?
We've had an idea to build some affordable homes, for local people, and of course super efficient which means warm and cheap to heat. The project is currently in the pre-planning and energy modelling phase.
All the other house building is standard, its high volume, and there's very little attention to detail, this is VERY different.
These won't just be eco-houses, they will be 'sustainable-lifestyle-ready', a blueprint for net-zero carbon living!
There will be an on-site car club of electric vehicles, which will be powered by the solar PV installed on the site. Household electricity will also be provided by the solar PV, the homes will require minimal heating which could be provided by an electric heater, or possibly a communal ground source heat pump - we haven't modeled that part of the scheme yet.
We're looking at some really innovative ideas using Vehicle to Grid technology and managing local electricity balancing.
The homes would not be available to buy, they will only be long term rent. And they will be smaller homes, there is more local housing need for 1-2 bed properties than 3-4 bed properties.
You can find more info on community-led housing on the My Community website.
Slowly and surely progress has been made over the last year, as we secured funding from Homes England, went through pre-planning and are now starting surveys on site.
We have signed an Option Agreement, which means we have up to three years to get planning permission on the site.
